YOU WANT

Breastfeeding

Did you know that all babies are born with a pug nose and that is for the purpose of breastfeeding.  You can not suffocate your child while breastfeeding.

Different positions that you can hold the infant are:
~~Cross Cradle
~~Football
~~Side Line

Most of the positions have a variation.

                                      LOW MILK SUPPLY

  • If your milk supply is low go have your thyroid levels checked.  It is known that low thyroid can reduce milk supply.
  • The key to low milk supply is to nurse frequently and boost your supply
  • You can still nurse if you have a low supply, it might just mean there is a temporally decrease.  (IF you are still concerned call a Lactation Consultant or you doctor.)
  • Your angel may not draw milk efficiently from the breast because of an underlying problem - a poor latch is one example
  • Some experts will tell you that food and drinks may play a role in low supply, so make sure you are eating and drinking healthy
  • Excessive blood loss may be a factor with delayed milk coming in.
  • Medication that you are taking

BREAST MILK IS SUPPLY AND DEMAND

Ways to tell if your angel is getting enough milk

1.  Is he/she swallowing-- you can hear this, you can also see the jaw drop down (suck, suck, swallow)
2.  Is he/she satisfied after their feeding.  This will usually look like the drunken baby glaze.  If the angel is not satisfied he/she will want to feed often and feed for more then an hour.  You can also tell if they want to eat every hour
3.  You can also tell by the diapers.  By day six he/she should have at least 6 wet diapers.  And day four there should be at least 4 stool diapers.  Breastfeed babies stool looks yellow and seedy.
4.  Weight gain is important!  Babies can lose 10% of there body weight the 3-4 days.  By day 10 your angel should be back at or above their birth weight.

Again if you are in any doubt call your Lactation Consultant or doctor.

GOOD LUCK & HAPPY FEEDING!!!
